Picking Orders with SmartScan
SmartScan's Pick module allows you to pick items by order or by batch using scanning efficiency with a supported Zebra, or Keyence device. The three standard pick processes available with SmartScan are briefly explained below.
To successfully pick an order using SmartScan, users must have the following permission assigned to their user role: Mobile Scanner > Pick Module >Â Mobile Picking.
Â
- Pick a single order:Â If you are shipping orders with larger items, full pallets, or SKUs that are not similar, we recommend a single pick process.
-
Pick multiple orders (without bins): If you have have multiple orders that share common SKUs, it’s best practice to use a multi-order pick process.
You can utilize either a cube truck or an empty pallet on a pallet jack to load the items. - Pick-to-bin:Â If you have multiple orders for unlike SKUs, we recommend a pick-to-bin process, which utilizes a pick cart with bins allocated for each order being picked.
- Pick for load-out:Â If you need to pick movable units, verify them, and then move them to staging to be loaded onto a trailer, we recommend using the load-out option.
Both multi-order pick and pick-to-bin are methods of "batch picking," which require the creation of a pick job in 3PL Warehouse Manager before you can pick the associated orders with SmartScan—see Creating Pick Jobs for more information.
SmartScan's 'Pack from Shelves' functionality, available in the Pack module, allows you to pick and pack in a single operation—to learn more, please see Packing from Shelves.
If you'd like to allow users to pick items that were not originally allocated to an order—i.e., the same SKU with different track-by's—you can use the "Reallocate at Pick Time" functionality. This feature must be enabled for your account under Admin > Settings, as well as for each customer using the "Pick – Allow reallocate" option under Customers > Manage Customers > Orders > Mobile Processing. The user who is performing the pick job must also have the following permission assigned to their role: Orders Module > Order Allocation.
