Picking for Load-Out FAQs
This article answers the most common questions we receive about using the Load-Out feature in SmartScan.
Do I have to use locations and movable units to use Load-Out?
Yes. Load-Out assumes that all picked inventory will be placed on a movable unit (MU) and moved to a staging location for loading, so these features must be enabled to support Load-Out. Inventory does not need to be on an MU prior to pick, but it must be placed on a loadable MU as part of the pick process.
What happens if the loader attempts to load an MU that is assigned to a different load?
If the loader tries to scan an MU that isn't part of the current job, a red "X" failure icon will appear so the loader knows that MU they're trying to scan isn't part of their job.
What happens if a loader attempts to close the load-out while there are outstanding movable units not yet loaded?
The "Next" button is disabled until the user has scanned all of the MUs included in the current job, which prevents them from progressing until all of the MUs are scanned.
What happens when there are legitimate overages, like if a carrier comes with freight and we can only load eight of ten pallets?
In this scenario, you would need to pull the two pallets off of the load and assign them to a different load. This is an issue that should be resolved prior to doing the actual load process, in which you would need to reconfigure the orders in 3PL Warehouse Manager to separate the MUs that won't ship together. Once that's done, the load-out process would proceed normally for the eight MUs actually being shipped.
