Clearing Enterprise Browser Cache in SmartScan
The Zebra Enterprise Browser (EB) acts as a platform that connects our SmartScan application to the Zebra hardware. For more information, please see our help article for Configuring SmartScan on Enterprise Browser.
How EB caching works
For performance purposes, EB will store copies of some data calls, and even the application, locally. When this happens, updates to SmartScan won’t be recognized because EB is running its cached code rather than the newly updated code from the cloud.
How to update SmarScan in EB
You need to use the EB clear cache when you cannot see the SmartScan updates that we have released.
Clearing the cache forces EB to go back to the source application–SmartScan. Then get the latest version of the code, which includes any updates that we have released.
Steps in clearing the EB cache
- First, disable ‘Kiosk mode’, if needed, by long-tapping the triangle icon at the bottom of the screen.
- Tap Administrator.
- Enter the default password to disable Kiosk mode. Please check with your administrator for the default password.
- Tap the Settings page.
- Tap Apps & Notifications.
- Tap Enterprise Browser.
- Tap App Info.
- Tap Storage.
- Tap Clear Cache.
Do NOT tap ‘Clear Data’ as this will delete the SmartScan configuration files from the Enterprise Browser.
 - To re-enable Kiosk mode:
- Open the MobiControl app.
- Scroll down to Agent Mode.
- Long-tap Administrator to change it back to User mode, which re-engages Kiosk mode.
- Finally, we suggest performing a soft reset by powering off the device and then turning it on again.Â
